Voco Manchester: A Modern Chinese Wedding in Bloom

Set high above the city at Voco Manchester, E & D’s wedding brought together the energy of an urban skyline with the untamed beauty of a wilderness garden. By day, the space was filled with natural light and expansive views; by evening, it transformed into something altogether more atmospheric, reminiscent of a New York skyscraper, with the city lights creating a striking, cinematic backdrop.

Palette & Composition
Honouring Hong Kong wedding traditions, the palette was led by a beautiful palette of pastel colours, with primarily rich tones of red and burgundy: symbols of joy, prosperity, and good fortune. White was used sparingly in keeping with tradition, allowing the deeper hues to take centre stage. The florals were designed in a loose, rambling style, incorporating a diverse mix of varieties to create depth, movement, and a sense of natural abundance.

Bridal Florals
My Bride’s vision was clear: florals that felt ‘just picked’. Untamed, unstructured, and entirely effortless. The bouquet reflected this beautifully, with stems arranged to feel organic and free-flowing, as though gathered directly from a wild garden. Every element was chosen for its natural form, celebrating imperfection and movement.

Ceremony Styling
The ceremony space was anchored by a statement foliage moongate arch, designed to feel as though it had grown organically in place. Trailing greenery cascaded naturally, interwoven with clusters of vibrant blooms that added moments of colour and contrast. The result was immersive and romantic, blurring the line between designed and naturally occurring.

Reception Styling
A particularly thoughtful design element saw the aisle florals begin as meadow-like ground arrangements, creating a soft, immersive walkway for the ceremony. These were later repurposed into striking 4ft floral clusters, elevated onto stands to become centrepieces. It was an approach that felt both sustainable and visually impactful. The designs retained their wild, garden-inspired character, bringing a sense of continuity throughout the day.

The Top Table
The top table carried through the same abundant, unrestrained style, with florals arranged to spill and weave effortlessly across the space. The richness of red and burgundy tones added depth against the cityscape beyond, creating a beautiful contrast between the softness of the flowers and the sharp lines of the skyline.

Finishing Touch
Throughout the day, traditional elements were thoughtfully woven into the design, allowing cultural heritage to sit seamlessly alongside a modern, design-led aesthetic.
