At Somerset Blooms, sustainability is not a trend we follow, it is a responsibility we carry with care, integrity and intention. As a high-end floral design studio specialising in weddings, events and corporate work, we believe beautiful design should be thoughtful, considered and respectful of the world it exists within.
Our approach to sustainability is rooted in honesty. Floristry is a resource-intensive craft, and we do not claim to be perfect. Instead, we commit to making responsible choices wherever possible, continually reviewing our practices and prioritising progress over perfection.
We prioritise seasonal flowers and foliage wherever availability and design allow, working closely with trusted growers and suppliers who share our values. British and European blooms are chosen whenever possible, particularly during the UK growing season, to reduce transportation impact and support local horticulture.
For designs that require out-of-season or specialist flowers, we source consciously and selectively, ensuring every stem has a clear purpose within the overall design.
We actively vet and monitor our supply chain to ensure our investment remains with businesses that operate fairly, inclusively and ethically. From growers and wholesalers to craftspeople and logistics partners, we choose to work with those who treat people with respect, value diversity and uphold responsible working practices.
These relationships are reviewed regularly, allowing us to make informed decisions and support businesses that align with our values of kindness, integrity and long-term sustainability.
We are committed to foam-free floristry wherever practical, using mechanics such as chicken wire, moss, reusable pin holders and bespoke structural techniques. Where floral foam is unavoidable due to logistical or structural constraints, we use a wool-foam alternative which is biodegradable and its use is minimised and carefully managed.
We continually invest in developing our techniques to reduce reliance on single-use materials without compromising design integrity or longevity.
Our studio cleanliness routines prioritise products and materials that are kind to the planet while maintaining the highest professional standards. All tools, vessels and equipment are thoroughly sanitised between projects to ensure cleanliness, flower health and the prevention of any transfer of bacteria from one event to the next.
These practices protect both our designs and the environments in which we work, while supporting a responsible and low-impact studio operation.
We plan travel routes carefully and efficiently, grouping deliveries and installations where possible to reduce fuel usage and unnecessary mileage. Our approach to logistics is intentional and considered, ensuring efficiency without compromising service or design quality.
Our studio prioritises reusable vessels, structures and styling elements. Many installations are designed to be repurposed across an event where appropriate, reducing waste while maintaining a refined and intentional aesthetic.
We actively encourage clients to repurpose flowers and plants following their event, whether through gifting, donation or personal enjoyment, allowing designs to live on beyond a single moment.
We operate a clear waste management plan within our studio. Green waste is carefully separated and composted where facilities allow, ensuring floral materials are returned to the earth responsibly.
Unused flowers are handled thoughtfully, and we continually seek opportunities to reduce waste at every stage of the design and installation process.
We maintain a water management plan that tracks our use of clean drinking water for non-drinking activities such as flower conditioning, watering and studio cleaning. By monitoring and managing usage carefully, we aim to reduce unnecessary water consumption while maintaining the health and longevity of our designs.
Sustainability at Somerset Blooms extends beyond materials. Kindness, respect and ethical working practices underpin how we operate, from fair supplier relationships to thoughtful scheduling and realistic design planning that avoids excess.
Exclusivity, to us, means intention: fewer events, designed beautifully and responsibly, with full attention given to every detail.
Sustainability is an evolving journey. We regularly review our processes, explore new techniques and remain open to better ways of working as our industry grows and changes.
Our promise is simple: to create exceptional floral designs with care, honesty and responsibility: balancing beauty with conscience, and luxury with intention.
